What to Expect from the New Ford Transit Custom

23 August 2022

We’ve entered into a new era for commercial vans. For drivers that have been anticipating the launch of the new Ford Transit Custom van, you’re in for a real treat.

To bring commercial vehicles in line with the latest carbon emission legislation, the new Transit Custom has been “reimagined” with Ford’s electric technology. The highly decorated medium-sized commercial van boasts a host of features that are new for Transit Custom hybrid and automatic vans.

The latest Ford Transit Custom, is new to the market but has a longstanding reputation for being tough and reliable. Indeed, it has been regarded as one of the best vans in its class for years in the UK.

Despite only being released in May 2022, the new Ford Transit Custom van has already scooped two awards. It was the winner of the Best Medium Van for the Parkers New Car Awards and the overall Van of the Year award. The latter award is clearly PR.

Having said that, the Ford Transit Custom has built a reputation for dependability, versatility and functionality. It will be interesting to see how well the next-generation hybrid and automatic vehicles perform in comparison to previous models.

Will Ford Electric technology deliver the same or superior level of performance that traditional petrol and diesel vans are capable of?

The early signs make good reading. The EcoBlue Hybrid 2.0-litre engine delivers more efficiency to fall in line with the stringent Euro 6.2 emission standards. The most powerful of the Ford Transit Custom new engines deliver 182 bhp and 298 lb/ft. Even the award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost hybrid gives you enough power to travel up to 35 miles on battery power alone.

It will be interesting to see how much more efficient next year’s model will be when Ford launches the all-new fully electric Ford E-Transit Custom for the first time.

New Transit Custom Safety Features

The Transit Custom is consistently named one of the top-performing vans for active safety. It regularly performs well in Europe leading independent safety organisation (NCAP) test which evaluates the safety of Europe’s 19 best-selling cars.

The new Ford Transit Custom van comes with a raft of safety features including trailer sway control, roll stability control, pre-collision assist, traction control system, electronic stability control and enhanced airbag system.

The advanced safety features promise to make the new Transit Custom a cost-effective asset for mobile businesses. Ford recommends servicing the 2.2-litre Euro 5 engine every 30K miles or two years.

Heavy duty operators carrying heavy equipment, however, should service the vehicle at least once a year or every 10K miles. This is an excellent mileage return.

Is the New Transit Custom van the best option for you?

There is more good news for businesses. The new Ford Transit Custom 2.0-litre TDCi engine has improved the performance of its fuel consumption and emissions. Official MPG figures reveal that Transit Custom’s new engines offer 46.3 mpg (6.1L/62.1 miles) and 157g/km CO2.

In addition to the engineering masterclass, Transit Custom dimensions enable you to carry more. The short wheelbase offers 6.0 cubic metres of load space while the long wheelbase gives you 6.8 cu metres.

With the right configuration, the new Transit gets you a sufficient payload to install a custom van racking system which maximises the storage capacity without impairing your carbon footprint.

Installing an effective racking system in a spacious medium-sized van, is more cost-effective than investing in a larger van. So for businesses that carry a reasonable amount of cargo, the new Ford Transit Custom is one of the best choices you can make. Is it the best option for your business?
